A two-day private escape into the Draa Valley
When time is limited, the road from Marrakech to Zagora offers a rewarding introduction to the landscapes of southern Morocco. Cross mountain passes, encounter kasbah architecture and follow the palm groves of the Draa Valley before a desert camp experience. Zagora is not the same as Merzouga’s much larger Erg Chebbi dunes, and we want travellers to understand that difference before booking.
Day-by-day itinerary
Day 1 — Marrakech, High Atlas, Ouarzazate and Zagora
Leave Marrakech for the High Atlas and travel through the Tizi n’Tichka region. Continue towards Ouarzazate and the Draa Valley through a changing landscape of rocky hills, oasis settlements and date palms. Reach Zagora later in the day for your agreed desert experience and overnight accommodation. A camel ride and traditional camp stay may be arranged depending on your chosen package.
Day 2 — Draa Valley, Aït Ben Haddou and Marrakech
After breakfast, travel north through the Draa Valley and the Ouarzazate area. Time permitting, visit or view Aït Ben Haddou, known for its earthen architecture, before crossing the High Atlas and returning to Marrakech. The journey involves significant time on the road, so stops depend on daylight and driving conditions.

Important: Zagora or Merzouga?
The classic two-day Zagora experience features smaller dune landscapes and the atmosphere of Morocco’s south. For vast high golden dunes, choose Merzouga and Erg Chebbi over at least three days. We can explain the difference and recommend the option that suits your schedule.

Frequently asked questions
Can we do this in one day?
A same-day round trip is not recommended. The route is already road-intensive over two days.
Are all desert camps luxurious?
No. Facilities vary considerably. Ask for your desired comfort category and confirmation of bathrooms, bedding and meals.
Can children join?
Family options can be discussed, although the drive may be tiring for younger children. Tell us their ages before booking.
