Merzouga’s Erg Chebbi dunes are known for their immense golden sand formations, whereas the Zagora route is a shorter desert excursion from Marrakech. Each experience has a different landscape and travel commitment.
Merzouga or Zagora?
Merzouga: best when you want the large Sahara dunes, camel trekking and a camp experience; plan at least three days from Marrakech for a reasonable route. Zagora: often chosen for a two-day Marrakech excursion, but its landscape differs from Erg Chebbi.
What to pack
Comfortable shoes, layered clothing, sunglasses, sunscreen and a small overnight bag. Desert temperatures can change considerably between daytime and evening.
