New Year’s Eve in Merzouga: three departure cities, one Sahara celebration
Choose a 3-day private New Year tour from Marrakech (30 December–1 January), a 3-day Sahara New Year tour from Fes (30 December–1 January), or a 5-day Casablanca–Fes–Merzouga–Marrakech route (29 December–2 January). All three programmes place you in Merzouga and the Erg Chebbi dunes on 31 December 2026, with a suggested desert-camp overnight and New Year’s Day sunrise. The selected camp, dinner, entertainment and transport details are confirmed individually rather than guaranteed on this website.
The Casablanca route ends in Marrakech on 2 January; the Marrakech three-day route returns to Marrakech on 1 January, while the Fes three-day route returns to Fes on 1 January. For travellers already staying in Marrakech, the easiest festive option may be a pre-booked restaurant, riad evening or Agafay desert dinner with private return transport. Agafay is a rocky desert near the city, not the towering Sahara dunes. Its appeal lies in the landscape, sunset atmosphere and shorter drive, with accommodation and entertainment agreed individually.

The Sahara at the turn of the year
For a more adventurous journey, consider the dunes around Merzouga. From Marrakech, the road involves substantial mountain and desert driving, so three days is a demanding itinerary and a more relaxed multi-day trip may be preferable. Desert camps vary in amenities, heating, bathrooms and entertainment. The exact camp and evening programme must be agreed before payment.

Practical New Year planning
December nights are cold in the mountains, Agafay and the Sahara; bring warm layers, comfortable footwear and suitable clothing for evening events. Winter daylight is shorter, and mountain routes can face weather disruptions. For families, include children’s ages and accommodation requirements in your request. If you are flying on 1 January, avoid overly tight road connections.
